Wow! Leave it to us to pick the wettest place on the West Coast for the last fifty years! The Pineapple Express is bringing about 2000 miles of rain right into this part of the California coast. It poured last night, today for our drive down to Pismo Beach. Checking the weather on the way down, we found that it was raining between a quarter and one inch an hour.
We checked in to the Pismo Coast Village RV Resort, where it rained 3.75 inches today. They closed the road just south of here due to flooding, but we are backed in and safely hooked up. Depending on the weather, we will see some things here in Pismo Beach. Rain and wind is forecast for the next several days, so we may decide to postpone the trip up the coast to San Simeon and Hearst Castle for another trip. One forecast was for heavy rains and winds of up to 70 mph on the coast, so there is no sense in driving an hour up for heavy rains and winds.
We will be here for four nights and by the time we drive down to Buellton north of Santa Barbara, the weather should improve.

Dave spent the last couple weeks up in Buellton, Their claim to fame is the movie Sideways was filmed there, if you hadn't already found that out. There is a steakhouse AJ Spur's that is pricey but really good ($18 for an entree salad, I think he said) He ate in the bar and got excellent service. He had a bowl of the Vaquero Soup that he absolutely loved. I'm waiting for time for him to try to make some for us.... He'll probably end up back there again in early January. Safe travels.

ReplyDeleteWe're booked into the Pismo Coast Village beginning on Jan. 3rd, so make sure you take a sponge and get rid of all that water before we arrive, o.k.??

Boy, according to news reports...you indeed are getting buckets of rain and more is expected in the coming days. Good thing you are safely tucked into Pismo Coast Village RV park. It's a nice park to ride the rain and stormy weather out. I hear they are closing roads Hwy #1 in places too. Our weather has settled down this week, after the stormy rainy week we had last week. A bit colder and wet, normal for Dec. Take care and keep warm and dry. Cathy
