A View towards Waldport from Our Campsite

On Monday, we drove over to the Oregon Coast for the Finney/Kelly Family Campout at the Waldport KOA.  We have had great weather since we have been here, and yesterday (Friday) most of Pamela's family has arrived.  There are about ten campsites filled with family and friends, and it has been good to visit with folks we haven't seen in a while.

On Thursday, Seth and Neil rented a skill with an eight horsepower outboard, some crab rings, and bait, and went on a "three hour cruise".  The boats are named after the characters in Gilligan's Island, and we declined the Minnow, and decided on the Millionaire.  We had a good three hours on the water, and came back with five nice Dungeness crabs.  We had wanted more, but after cracking them to eat, we were glad that we didn't get a bunch more.

We were able to watch seals, sea birds and a LOT of other boaters shuttling between their crab rings and pots.  They use crab rings a lot down here, and you have to pull them often.  The marine also gave us two mink carcasses for bait.  They seemed to work better than the chicken in the third crab ring.  Neil asked if they had cats for bait, and the closest they had was mink ;}

We brought the VW Passat over to the Coast with us this time since we are here for a week, and we needed to run Pamela's cousin Virginia back to the Eugene airport on Tuesday.  It has been nice to have a car to run around in, and we understand why people tow a "dingy" or "toad" behind their motorhomes.  We will think about that when we can afford it.  We drove up to Lincoln City and checked out a few other campgrounds yesterday, and also tried The Chowder Bowl restaurant in Nye Beach to see if we liked their chowder as well as Mo's.  It turns out that we both like Mo's chowder better, but it was pretty close.

We are enjoying the sunny weather here, and will look forward to finishing the shed when we get back to West Linn early next week.  It has now been about 45 days without rain here in Oregon, and we need some badly.  We expect that September will bring some as it always does.
