Boat-less In Juneau

Even worse than Sleepless in Seattle, we think.  After three years, we sold our half of the "Joint Adventure" Hewescraft cabin cruiser today to our partner, Sam Carlson.  It was a great three years, with many hours of whale watching, fishing, beach combing, as well as crab and shrimp fishing.

It was very bittersweet for us, as we really enjoyed the boat, and the co-ownership with Sam and Cindy Carlson was great:  we always said that everything was "50% off".  Sam and his family will get many more hours of use, and we might even get invited to go fishing with him when we come back to Juneau to visit.  If so, we promise to buy the gas!  

The Joint Adventure (was called Off Season) at Lincoln Island

There is a saying that B O A T stands for Break Out Another Thousand, but this boat has been pretty economical, even with fluctuating fuel costs.  It cruises at about 26 mph while burning slightly less than 10 gallons per hour.  For a 200 hp outboard, that ain't bad.

Since it was not raining today, we also decided to get some mulching done in the garden.  We spread about ten  bags of mulch along the front of the garden, and it looks a lot better.  Earlier this year, we were able to get the Whitney Farms bark mulch at Fred Meyer with an internet coupon and saved about two bucks a bag!

Neil was also able to get the driveway power washed to get all the accumulated hemlock needles, dirt and other stuff blown off to make the driveway look better for the open house.  Between the boat, decks, and driveway, the power washer has been a good investment.  Besides, any maintenance task that Neil can use a power tool to do is a bonus.

Some of you may be getting tired of the pictures of Stellar's Jays from our deck, but here is another one looking in at us as we had breakfast this morning.  He was only inches from Pamela, and watched us eat breakfast.  This was after we had already fed them peanuts, of course.
